I'm Hiring!!

Posse Tummler

Who the heck Am I?

  • I’m looking for a long term Community Tummler & Manager.
  • This application process is perhaps not what you’re used to, but I think expectations are really important.
  • I have a penchant for swearing and bad metaphors.
  • My whole schtick is stress reduction and skill building- I teach parents how to figure out what is causing their child's misbehaviour and how to fix it without all the old-school shame and punishment bullshit.
  • This page is every bit of who I am in all of it’s over the topness – perfectionism, verboseness included. I can rock a Mom bun with the best of em.

Hi, I'm Allana Robinson!

Let's get to the real (and sometimes ugly) stuff first...

I can be very scattered and I tend to work when the brain downloads happen- though that is getting better now that my children are in school and I can focus. You might notice me sending you videos or messages at 1am, because that's when the idea hit me. I never expect my team mates to actually respond to me in the middle of the night, though.

That said, I do try to plan ahead when my brain allows. But that plan doesn’t always happen that way – sometimes I throw other stuff into my week because it feels good to me to do that. Sometimes I change my priorities. Sometimes the military (my husband's occupation) changes my plans for me.

I’m a mess – more than I really want to admit. I’m not a very organized person, although I am systematic. I’m definitely interested in working with someone who can follow the systems I've created, while still rolling with the punches. If the idea of working with someone messy like me sounds like a nightmare, we won’t be a good fit. If you just got super excited because you love systems but are also creative and spontaneous- we'll get along just fine.

I am extremely protective of my brand, my graphics, my positioning, and the user experience I have created. Disorganized as I may be on paper, it’s all carefully planned and designed in my head. I will want to check everything before it’s published. It won’t be due to a lack of trust, or because I think you can’t do it “right”. My brand is reliant on it feeling authentically me. There is no Uncommon Sense Parenting, Parenting Posse, MudRoom, or ParentAbility without me.

IMPORTANT: Full Description of What I'm Looking For in a Tummler

  • Be familiar with the ins and outs of Facebook group moderation– You have one yourself or have experience modding for others.
  • Be competent. Don’t know 100% how something works? You know how to Google. You find ways to learn and get the job done.
  • Be a fast learner. I don’t expect you to know everything – I sure don’t. But you can adapt quickly and learn as we go.
  • Document and organize your work – I won’t need to ask you to do these things, you just know and do them automagically.
  • Be able to communicate well with me – My business is like my child. Come to me and tell me when something is going wrong with my baby.

You Need To...

You Should...

  • Be truly organized and systematic. You can follow the system and keep track of your work. Remote work doesn't work if you aren't putting things where they need to go, and on time.
  • Understand my work and my mission. That’s not to say I won’t hire someone who has no idea who I am… but rather that you should take the time to familiarize yourself. I can’t see a working relationship with someone who doesn’t get to know me and what I’m about.
  • Be proactive and accountable. I cannot and will not chase you to do your job. If something isn't working, tell me before it becomes a huge issue. If something is due to be done Tuesday by 5pm, you've got it done by noon. When it comes to my business I don't like surprises.
  • Be collaborative and willing to suggest additional ways we can improve or expand upon our system. Have a great idea? I want to hear it!
  • Be curious about people and a "pattern-noticer". Patterns for what people have in common. Patterns for what people don’t have in common. Patterns in the questions people ask, in the things that people are excited about, and in the problems people are trying to solve.
  • Be genuinely empathic and compassionate. We aim to embody the "people do well if they can" mindset and approach each community member with that in mind. We all have our knee-jerk reactions and private judgements, but you need to be able to put those aside when assisting potential clients and community members.

The idea here is that in an ideal world, you would be working for me long term. I am not interested in spending a ton of time having to hire/onboard/fire on repeat… because that sounds like an exhausting waste of valuable time and energy.

I consider Dr. Stuart Shanker, Dr. Mona Delahooke, and Dr. Ross Greene three of the biggest influences over the strategies I teach and how I approach clients, business, and life. If you know anything of these approaches and they sit well with you- we'll get along great. The rest of the team and I have the ability to put on our professional hats when doing client-facing work, but behind the scenes we're very casual, chummy, and genuine friends. That's a dynamic I'd like to continue building in the company.

The Tech Stuff We Use

This isn't what I would characterize as a position requiring someone "techy." That said, it is a remote position and you should be competent at navigating the softwares and systems we use in order to get the job done. You don't need to an expert in any of these, but a familiarity is certainly an asset.

  • Facebook Groups! - this is kind of the big kahuna for this position. You should be familiar with the various FB group moderation tools, how to use them, and be able to figure out where they go when Facebook changes it's layout with no warning. Knowing how to schedule posts in a Facebook group is a vital competency for this role.
  • Canva- This is a simple cloud-based graphic design program that you will need to use to create visuals for some posts. We do also have a graphic designer on staff, but they can only work on one project at a time, and you should be able to use some of the templates we have in Canva for basics like quote graphics.
  • Google Suite- we use Google Workspace so a familiarity with Docs and Sheets in particular is appreciated.
  • ClickUp- this is the project management software we use and where you'll be assigned tasks, where we keep our standard operating procedures, and keep track of completed work. You'll be expected to keep your ClickUp up to date daily. You don't need to know anything about this before hand, but a willingness to familiarize yourself with this system is essential.
  • Chrome browser- part of this job is admitting new members to our group. We use a Chrome extension called Group Funnels that is essential to this position.

Alright! If none of that has scared you off yet...

Stuff to know...

  • My main website is allanarobinson.com
  • I started my current business in 2015 – while it has certainly morphed and pivoted in that time, all roads point to where I am currently.
  • I consider myself to be a Parenting Coach with a focus on children in early childhood (so between 2-6 years old generally, though I do have clients who have children up to age 14.)
  • I’ve been working with children in one form or another for over 15 years (holy crap!) I was an early interventionist and Developmental Specialist for 10 years before starting this gig.
  • I have 99.9% built and run this business alone (that’s not a flex, but an observation)
  • My business is working really well – 2020 was my best year yet, but I see myself failing to scale because I can’t spin this many plates myself.
  • I have 1 Facebook group- the Parenting Posse- for which you would be responsible. My other group, the Inner Circle, was for my clients, however we recently moved that over into a dedicated app in October 2021.

More about me + my business

What I Need...

These are the tasks I will be outsourcing to this position. Please read each carefully. This position does have the potential to expand past the time I've allotted for it currently, so this may change as we grow and mature.

Content Curation and Creation

  • Curate quotes and create graphics for posts.
  • Promote blog content
  • Welcome new members weekly
  • Create thought-provoking questions for the community that relate to our content.
  • Curate and create graphics for testimonial posts.
  • Share content from Facebook page or Instagram into the group.

We've been really lax with promoting the quality content we produce to our community lately. The main function of this position would be to curate that content and promote it on a daily basis.

Conversation Moderation

The Posse is not your typical Facebook Mom group. We aim to keep the focus on behaviour questions and using Uncommon Sense strategies and principles. We have strict anti-asshole rules and guidelines around what topics we will and will not allow to be discussed in the space.

  • Assist community members with connecting with other members who have children with similar struggles, are from similar areas, or have similar interests.
  • Connect community members to our content as needed. Share blog posts, videos, or podcasts to help them navigate their situation.
  • Enforce the Posse rules with wild abandon. You'll get a ban-hammer. Use it.
  • Invite community members who need further support to enrol in our paid support options.

Community Administration

Like any community, the Posse requires some maintenance. You'd be responsible for ensuring it remains administratively healthy and cleaning up any messes that arise.

  • Add new members 2x a week. Ensure those who provide contact details are added to our email system and receive their welcome packet.
  • Update the welcome packet as needed.
  • Update Key Performance Indicators weekly in ClickUp.
  • Update Rules as necessary.
  • Approve or decline anonymous posts based on set criteria.
  • Mute, restrict, or ban members who break rules as required based on a set criteria.

The Hours and Pay

I've currently allotted 10/hours a week for this position at a rate of $25/hour CAD. The expectation is that you spend about an hour/day posting the content for that day and moderating, with 3 hours left over for content curation and creation sometime during the week. That might not be enough, in which case we can look at expanding it. I've never had someone permanently in this position before, so I'm basing the hours on the workload my other team members are able to handle in the same time frame. I pay everyone on the 30th of the month by direct deposit (this generally deposits the next day for Canadians, but can take up to 4 days for those who are international.) If you are not in Canada you will be paid in your local currency at whatever exchange rate xe.com is currently offering.

You can apply from any time zone. I live in Eastern Time, but I'm a night owl and usually awake (if not working) till about 12 am. I'm trying to be better about unplugging in the evenings now that my kids are in school and I have to get them up and out earlier in the morning. As I said, though, I tend to work when my brain locks on to an idea so it's not uncommon for me to be up and pushing out content into the wee hours.

Look… I know that I am dedicated to my business and community and I hope you are to yours as well. If you’ve got kids, or you have some weekly thing you do where you’re not available on certain hours on Wednesdays… that’s totally fine. As a contractor, it's your responsibility to set your schedule. As long as you don't disappear on me, your work is done, and the communication lines are open, we're good.

How to Apply

Please fill this out even if you aren’t sure you are 100% the best fit – I’m not expecting you to be so well-rounded that all of what’s here is exactly you. I want to hire people who are just really friggin good at their thing.

I will take applications until the job is filled, but it's my hope to have someone in this position by January 1st 2022 at the latest.

If you have any questions about the application, please use the chat system in the bottom right.
